Welcome to another edition of the ITEC Newsletter. You are receiving this email because you are either a user of the GMS ITEC System or have shown interest in this product. The next ITEC update is scheduled for release later this month. Once released, this update should be downloaded and installed as soon as possible.  

Remember, the update will only install if the previous update was applied.  If you are missing an update, please contact us and we will be happy to assist you on getting them installed.  As per our policy, we will only support the latest version of the software so it is important that you keep your system updated!


To tweet or not to tweet, that is the question. We have a company twitter account, but haven't really used it yet. We are wondering how you feel about twitter and if we should incorporate it as part of our social media. If you have a twitter account and would follow us, please email us at support@gmsint.com with a subject of "Twitter" to let us know.  


If you are using a home-style or SOHO (Small Office Home Office) router in your business, it may be time to up the ante and get a more robust device. We have seen many attempts by hackers (thankfully unsuccessful) who use programs to compromise servers. A good firewall blocks all incoming traffic unless it is specifically allowed by pre-defined rules. These firewalls also have options for anti-virus, anti-spam, anti-malware, etc. Most also have VPN connectivity for those of you that travel or have employees working from home. Without a VPN for remote accesss and without a firewall with rules, your server is suseptible to hackers that find open IP addresses and attempt to guess login ID's and passwords.

As for allowing us into your system, that is where the rules set up in firewall comes in. You simply allow only our IP address to access your system. For more information on firewalls, contact your IT person. If you don't have an IT person, let us know and we can help find one for you.


Question:  When I output a shipment list to Excel it shows all countries. How do I show only the one country I want?

Answer: Use the built in filtering that comes with Excel. From the Data menu, click on the Filter icon. This will automatically place a dropdown list next to each field. Select the country field (or any other field you want to filter) and all of the possible choices will be displayed. Use the check boxes to select & unselect for the desired results.

Note: Make sure to clear the filter when finished.


ACE Meeting for Software Developers...
There is an upcoming meeting for software developers on February 25, 2014 in Baltimore which we are attending. They will be discussing PGA (Participating Government Agencies), AES Export Changes and a variety of other ACE programs. If you have specific questions that you would like us to ask on your behalf, please email them to support@gmsint.com with a subject of "Upcoming ACE Meeting" and we will be glad to ask.
